Josh Berry
About the Artist
Josh Berry was born in 1974 in Phoenix Arizona to Tom and Bonnie Berry. Along with his older sister Lisa, he and his parents moved back to His Father’s home place of Dexter, NM when he was one. He grew up there on the family farm until he was eleven, when they moved to Roswell. He attended local schools, graduating from Goddard High School in 1992 and continued on to college at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. From there His modeling and Acting career took him from Atlanta then Dallas and then back to Albuquerque over the course of 17 years.
On Cinco De Mayo 2007, a severe motorcycle racing accident left josh with a broken Pelvis and it was necessary for Josh to re-locate to Roswell to have assistance while he healed. At 33, he found himself in his old bedroom again. This proved to be a major turning point for him. While healing in his childhood bed, realizing the situation would delay his plans to move to Los Angeles, He received a phone call from that very City. It was his best friend calling, who, without notice, put him on the phone with who would quickly become the love of his life, Ariana Smythe. She relocated to New Mexico in January 2008, and they married in September of that same year. An actress herself, together they worked in the film industry for several years, commuting from Roswell to ABQ, Santa Fe and beyond. In between acting jobs, Josh, a true gearhead and car lover since birth, spent vast amounts of time working on his project cars, learning new skills along the way that would later influence and lend to his Art.
One day in 2011, while visiting the family farm he was raised on, he discovered a vintage light box his father, a true artist and craftsman himself, had made in the dusty attic of the barn. Josh’s Father’s creation fascinated him. So he set out to rebuild it to its former glory. The excitement he felt on this project was both refreshing and addicting to him. And reminded him again that art had always been his favorite class.
So he re-built the one light, and then he built another. And then he built another. And then custom jobs came. And then commissioned jobs came. With each new challenge and each new creation, he fell more in love with the work and found a connection and purpose that he’d ever known in any of his past ventures. Upon this new love, encouragement from others, and positive feedback from peers and clients, Josh and his wife started their own company, Metalmark Eclectics, in 2012. From then until now, Josh has truly found a whole new level of contentment in his work, in his heart, and in his home. He has now come full circle and is living again on his childhood farm with his wife and their cat, Penny. He loves creating, working alongside his family, and is constantly grateful for the life and the work God continues to bless him with.
